National Minority Health Month is observed in April, an initiative that targets the health needs of African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans and other minorities.
The observation is designed to build awareness regarding the unequal burden of preventable death and illness in these groups. Northern Health suing ship owner for medical expenses
Northern Health is suing a ship owner alleged to have reneged on bills for medical expenses.
According to a notice of claim filed March 24 in BC Supreme Court, a member of the crew aboard the Morning Cloud needed emergency medical care while the bulk cargo carrier had berthed at the Port of Prince Rupert in January 2021.
The crew member was in hospital for eight days, most of the time spent at Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace. The cost of the care amounted to $45,489 and because the patient was a foreign citizen, he did not qualify for coverage…

A new primary care program launched in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside aims to deliver health care to women in a culturally appropriate manner.
The Women’s Mobile Primary Care Program’s new mobile health unit van teams doctors, nurses and social workers with Indigenous knowledge keepers, elders, and healers to provide care from an Indigenous perspective.
A Wednesday press conference to announce the launch of the new mobile unit started with a traditional blessing where cedar leaves were washed onto the van.
