Federal dental plan could lead employers to drop coverage: assoc
OTTAWA –
An association of health insurance providers warns it might not be useful for small businesses to provide dental benefits to some employees once the government launches a national dental-care plan.
The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association has pitched the idea of a federal tax credit for small businesses to convince them not to drop their coverage.
“When governments provide free coverage for any type of benefit, employers will naturally ask if they should continue to pay for those or whether their employees would be as well-served ΓǪ moving to the public plan,” said association president Stephen Frank.…
US health insurance problems affect well-being of HAE patients: Survey | US insurance coverage delays, denials ’cause huge disruptions’ for HAE patients
Insurance issues significantly affected the physical, psychological, and financial health of people with hereditary angioedema (HAE) in the US, according to a recent patient survey.
Patients reported that health insurance delays and coverage denials led to more frequent HAE attacks, urgent care visits, missed work or school, and greater anxiety.
“Barriers to care due to insurance delays are well documented, but data is lacking for HAE patients,” Nonie S. Arora, MD, of the University of Michigan and the study’s corresponding author, said in a press release. “We set out to examine not only the impact those denials and delays had…

The individual health insurance exchange in 2023
The year 2023 marks the tenth year of operations for the US health insurance exchanges since they launched as part of the Affordable Care Act in 2014. The individual market has remained fluid during this time, with insurer participation, pricing, and plans changing from year to year.
Consumer participation increased by 25 percent to approximately 16 million from 2020 to 2022, coincident with extended enrollment periods and enhanced subsidies implemented under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and extended through 2025 by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
We have collected and analyzed data from every health insurance exchange…

New initiative helps Pittsburghers apply for health insurance at laundromats
Doing laundry at a laundromat can take hours. So why not sign up for health insurance while waiting for your clothes to dry?
“You’re sitting there, with nothing to do. It’s just a great chunk of time that we’ve identified that we’re able to reach people,” said Rachael Herbert-Nalevanko, a Pittsburgh outreach coordinator for Fabric Health. The Philadelphia-based organization connects laundromat patrons with support services such as SNAP benefits and assistance with energy bills.
Fabric Health comes to Pittsburgh laundromats at a time when 3.6 million Pennsylvanians insured through Medicaid are at risk of losing their coverage. Due to the…
