A former registered nurse with Alberta Health Services (AHS) has filed a $3.7-million lawsuit alleging she was wrongfully dismissed over her views regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a 44-page statement of claim filed with the Court of King’s Bench in Calgary, Debra Carritt had worked in health care since 1993 as an emergency medical technician, paramedic and since 2012, with AHS as a registered nurse rising to the unit role manager.

Park district to test autonomous lawn mowers at 3 parks; deadline for Naperville art competition set for April 11; NAMI DuPage hosting fundraiser for mental
The Naperville Park District will be testing the use of autonomous electric lawn mowers this month in three parks: White Eagle Park, 3140 White Eagle Drive; Kingshill Park, 4271 White Eagle Drive; and Monarch Park, 1585 White Eagle Drive.
The district has contracted with Havenshine Technologies Inc., based in Naperville, which will provide the mowers and staff to supervise the mowers in each park.
“We are researching the use of autonomous mowers and we are impressed by their safety, efficiency and potential for improving our overall maintenance of turf fields,” Director of Parks Tim Quigley said in a news release.…

Northern Health suing ship owner for medical expenses
Northern Health is suing a ship owner alleged to have reneged on bills for medical expenses.
According to a notice of claim filed March 24 in BC Supreme Court, a member of the crew aboard the Morning Cloud needed emergency medical care while the bulk cargo carrier had berthed at the Port of Prince Rupert in January 2021.
The crew member was in hospital for eight days, most of the time spent at Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace. The cost of the care amounted to $45,489 and because the patient was a foreign citizen, he did not qualify for coverage…
Kettering Health hires firm to look into misconduct allegations
The anonymous complaints accuse Manchur of expensing trips and using hospital network funds to remodel his home, and involve Weigley’s automobile expenses, among other things.
Manchur and Weigley were not able to be reached for comment.
Complaints to the AG’s office also referenced additional Kettering Health executives. Saskatchewan health minister insists ‘we acted’ on COVID-19 advice
Saskatchewan health minister Paul Merriman is insisting he followed the advice of the province’s top doctor during COVID-19’s fourth wave, during which the government’s own notes showed Saskatchewan had, at times, the highest rates of new COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country .
