People with physical disabilities hold limited positions as scholars, teachers, or leaders in physical education, recreation, and sports. Perhaps the reason is that the field is flooded with able-bodied people who think they know best. But do they? Michael Oliver, imminent writer, and scholar argued that people with physical disabilities should be the only ones in the field of disability studies because they have a bodily experience with disabilities. The following five-part article series shares the perspective of a scholar in the field of sports disability who has his own physical limitations. In…

Comparing health care costs at Utah hospitals, the patient rights group finds transparency problems
We just got out of our open enrollment period at The Tribune, and I wasn’t especially happy with what I saw this year.
To The Tribune’s credit, our health insurance plan premiums didn’t rise. But everything else was bad news. You see, the deductible rose significantly — by 66% year-over-year. And just as bad, the amount of each procedure our insurance would pay for dropped by 10 percentage points, nearly across the board. Not great, Bob.
I tell you this is not to try to garner sympathy, but out of empathy for you all. It turned out most Americans, like…

In February, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a deal that would see Ottawa give $196 billion for the Canada Health…
Compass Medical files for bankruptcy after sudden closure – Boston News, Weather, Sports
Health care provider Compass Medical has filed for bankruptcy after abruptly closing its practices last week, records show.
Compass had locations in Quincy, Braintree, East Bridgewater, Easton, Middleborough and Taunton. It then confirmed an “imminent plan” to close its practices on Wednesday of last week, leaving hundreds without a job and thousands with health care headaches.
The company is now facing a class-action lawsuit that has said, in part, Compass’ sudden closure placed patients “…in the chaotic, stressful, disruptive, and unsafe position of having to scramble to find new medical providers, to fill and/ or refill prescriptions, to schedule and/or…

Ontario Health Coalition holds ‘community-run referendum’ against privatization of health care – Kingston
People across Ontario are casting ballots in a “community-run referendum” that is weighing a heavy question on the privatization of health care.
In March, the Ford government passed a bill that would allow more private clinics to offer some publicly funded surgeries to help reduce the surgery backlog that built up during the COVID-19 pandemic. To protest that move, the Ontario Health Coalition is turning to the public to ask their opinion on the issue.
Volunteers are setting up all over Kingston, and across the province, speaking with the public about this issue and encouraging people to cast their vote.

How health care teams can help people with bedbugs: a patient’s perspective
As a patient with very low vision, chronic heart failure, type 2 diabetes, weight management concerns and fluctuating hemoglobin levels, it is difficult to not have feelings of isolation, poor body image and self-blame that impact my mental health and wellness. These feelings also impact my honesty and relationship with my primary care team. Being afraid that I’ll be looked down on is one of the main factors that makes me not want to share information with them.
A few months ago, I disclosed that I had a bed bug infestation by my family doctor and nurse practitioner who visited…
