The North Bay and District Health Coalition wants the government to scrap Bill 60 Your Health Act, 2023, and will hold a protest on the West Ferris overpass Thursday.

The act will privatize surgeries and diagnostics and will expand private hospitals and clinics.

“The North Bay and District Health Coalition is having a rally to bring awareness to the people of Nipissing about the Bill 60 to ask Minister Fedeli to stop the madness and scrap of Bill 60 now before it’s too late,” said Henri Giroux Co-Chair, North Bay Health Coalition.

“For 100 years, Ontario has built a system of local public hospitals that operate on a non-profit basis, and in the public interest,” said Giroux.

Giroux says Ontario funds hospitals at the lowest rate compared to other provinces and has the fewest hospital beds per person of any province in Canada.

“The majority of public hospital operation rooms are only open from 9 am to 4 pm, and are closed on weekends. The report of the Accountability Office of Ontario shows that this government has underspended on healthcare by $1.25 billion,” said Giroux.

The awareness rally takes place on the overpass on Lakeshore Drive by Judge Avenue at 4 pm

The public is encouraged to join.
