**UPDATE: Manulife reached out to Global News on Thursday to advise “we are very sorry to hear of this situation. We strive to do everything within our power to serve our customers. We have investigated and are actively working to resolve this situation.”
A short time later, Bob Choquette also reached out to let us know that the situation had been resolved. Not only did Manulife refund his money, it also refunded the premium he paid for the insurance coverage he had originally bought.

Desjardins’ income falls 24 per cent in the first quarter
For the quarter ended March 31, Desjardins Group recorded surplus earnings before member dividends of $342 million.
This represents a decrease of $109 million compared to the same period in 2022, when surplus earnings were $451 million. The 2022 amount was adjusted, leading to a 24 per cent downturn over a 12-month period.
Data for the first quarter of 2022 have been adjusted, as for all insurers, to reflect changes to IFRS accounting standards. Comparison with the previous year must be done with caution, the cooperative points out.

ATLANTA – More than 35,000 Georgians will lose their health insurance unless they find a new provider before August.
The state Insurance Commissioner announced that policyholders with the Friday Health Plan will have their coverage end at the end of the day on July 31.
The state is taking over the insurance company, saying that it is insolvent and cannot raise additional revenue from outside investors.
Friday Health Plans of Georgia Inc. was placed into administrative supervision by consent order after it was reported a deficiency in March.

More doctors across Alberta are speaking out, saying their emergency rooms are under intense strain, despite political messaging to the contrary.
On Wednesday, nearly 200 Calgary physicians published an open letter describing “collapsing” ERs and calling for Albertans to think about health care when they vote in Monday’s provincial election.

More workers said paid leave was extremely important to them than those valuing health insurance.
That was one finding of a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center.
Almost half of workers who get paid time off don’t usually use up all their allocation, it was found.
