Protests were held across the province Tuesday opposing what critics described as plans to privatize health care in Ontario.
Held by the Ontario Health Coalition, organizers said the Ford government’s Bill 60 would bring back a two-tier health care system.
Representatives took aim at the bill, which is expected to pass this week.
“That bill is allowing a lot of hospital procedures, diagnostics, and surgeries to be moved out of public hospitals, and into what are being called independent health facilities,” said Marie DellaVedova of the Coalition.
“They are, in fact, private hospitals and clinics.”

What is Medicare Secondary Payer and when does it apply?
Editor’s note: This column, a repeat from last year, is a follow-up to the previous Health Care Buzz column.
Several adults are either on Traditional Medicare/TM already or are looking to move to Medicare as they turn 65 and have many questions about: Will Traditional Medicare always be the primary insurance after 65? Is there ever a time it won’t be? Great questions and as always, there are multi-layered answers.

‘Enough is enough:’ Health coalition rallies against Ontario’s privatization health care plan – London
The Ontario Health Coalition (OHC) says they’re “fighting back” in launching a citizen-wide referendum to stand up against the government’s plan to privatize public health care.
Launch events unveiling the referendum were held across several cities Tuesday, including a rally outside St. Joseph’s Health Care in London, Ont.
Peter Bergmanis, co-chair of the local OHC, said that hundreds of polling stations will be set up across the Forest City in the coming weeks.
“We’re going to send a strong message: This government does not have the right to touch the public health care system,” he said.

Manitoba wants 150 new family doctors for the province, and recruitment specialists to find them
Shared Health is looking for outside help to address the severe physician shortage in Manitoba.
The organization that co-ordinates health care in Manitoba is seeking as many as three external firms to recruit an additional 150 family physicians to the province: up to 50 each in Winnipeg; the northern health region and Churchill; and the rest of rural Manitoba.
“Evolving population health needs, systemic issues, changes in how new medical graduates want to practice, and an increasing proportion of the physician workforce approaching retirement have all contributed to a need to increase the number of family physicians practicing in Manitoba,”…
