During the 2023 Donut Strike for Manna, eight agencies across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties collected food and funds, raising the equivalent of 30,750 healthy meals for hungry neighbors in need served by the Manna Food Bank. This year’s event brought first responders’ total contributions since 2017 to more than 160,000 healthy meals for children and families in need.

GHENT — State Sen. Michelle Hinchey and the Field and Fork Network at the Hawthorne Valley Farm Store announced $2 million in state funding to support the expansion of Double Up Food Bucks NY, a program that has contributed over $10 million in New York-grown produce sold with $2.7 million going to New York farmers.
The program doubles the value of federal nutrition benefits spent at participating markets and grocery stores, helping customers bring home healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers.

Income and healthy food accessibility are associated with life expectancy, with the lowest life expectancy in low-income/low-access census tracts, according to a study published online June 28 in the Journal of Urban Health.
Jason Massey, MPH, from the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, and colleagues examined the association between measures of healthy food accessibility and life expectancy at birth across 67,138 contiguous US census tracts.
