Backlash continued to rain down on Gov. JB Pritzker Wednesday following his decision last week to close enrollment for a state-funded health insurance program for immigrants under 65 as other Illinois officials highlighted that a bill is sitting on the governor’s desk that would allow the state to issue regular driver’s licenses for noncitizens.
Though not connected, the two issues took center stage as Pritzker continued to push back against criticism from Latino lawmakers and immigrant advocates that his administration’s decision on the health insurance program was “immoral and fiscally shortsighted.” Pritzker has defended the move because program costs are…

Generali appeals against health insurance premium cap in Slovenia
June 19 (SeeNews) – Italian insurer Generali has filed an appeal with Slovenia’s Supreme Court demanding that the cap on supplementary insurance premium be scrapped, local media reported.
The 35.67 euro ($39.0) upper price limit for supplementary health insurance has a negative effect on the operations of the company, as it is not sufficient to cover all obligations amid the higher costs of medical services, the STA news agency quoted sources from Generali as say.
Earlier this year, Slovenia’s Appeals Court dismissed an appeal by Generali, Triglav and Vzajemna against the price limit, set by the Slovenian government in mid-April.…
Many Americans Face Insurance Obstacles Over Medical Care and Bills
A majority of Americans with health insurance said they had encountered obstacles to coverage, including denied medical care, higher bills and a dearth of doctors in their plans, according to a new survey from KFF, a nonprofit health research group. As a result, some people are delayed or skipped treatment.
Those who were most likely to need medical care — people who described themselves as in fair or poor health — reported more trouble; three-fourths of those receiving mental health treatment experienced problems.
“The consequences of care are delayed and missed altogether because of the sheer complexity of the system…
Health insurance companies in Connecticut request double-digit price hikes
HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Your health insurance could go up by around 12% next year. Connecticut attorney general William Tong calls the price hikes “exorbitant”.
In total, there are 10 filings made by 9 health insurers for plans that cover around 188,000 people.
The proposed average individual rate of request is a 12.4% increase. The proposed average small group rate request is a 14.8 % increase.
“What I’m worried about is people are going to drop off their insurance or they are going to other plans that may be more affordable but provide less coverage,” said Tong.
Tong plans to…

Data for the first quarter of 2022 have been adjusted, as for all insurers, to reflect changes to IFRS accounting standards. Comparison with the previous year must be done with caution, the cooperative points out.
