A report on Prince Edward Island’s ailing health-care system says the province needs about 1,200 additional workers over the next 10 years.
The report by Halifax-based health-care consulting firm Health Intelligence says the province will need 1,194 more workers across all health disciplines by 2032.
Health Intelligence says its forecast is based on the province’s plan to reform the health-system by adding more nurses, doctors and pharmacists to the network.

A report on human resource needs for PEI’s health-care system outlines a need for thousands of new workers over the next 10 years.
Provincial Clinical and Preventive Services Planning for Prince Edward Islandknown as the Peachey report, commissioned by the provincial government, is the first comprehensive look at human resource needs since 2010, Health Minister Mark McLane told the legislature Tuesday.

Major Jon Mitchell presents over $500 million budget, urges health, pension cost reform
NEW BEDFORD – Mayor Jon Mitchell presented a city budget to the council Wednesday that topped half a billion dollars.
The totals: $513,169,319.
And by far the largest portion of that is the general fund, which comes in at $458,910,392.
It’s the general fund that includes schools, public safety, and city government.
It also includes health insurance, pensions, mandatory assessments and debt services.
Mitchell was optimistic about the city’s financial future while cautioning that new budget tactics are needed.

In one of the largest healthcare deals to date, Kaiser Permanente is acquiring Pennsylvania-based Geisinger Health and investing $5 billion to fold it into a new nonprofit subsidiary called Risant Health, which is set to purchase additional medical groups in coming years.

Most of the masking requirements implemented at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic for health-care facilities in Manitoba are set to be lifted next week.
