Buffalo Schools leaders and the Buffalo Teachers Federation have been at an impasse since 2019. The two sides met six times in the last month, hoping to have a new contract to announce at Wednesday’s board meeting.

Human error blamed for Chicopee health insurance overpayments
Officials in Chicopee, Massachusetts are working to recover money the city paid for health insurance premiums for municipal employees who had retired and in some cases died.
While acknowledging the data review is not finished, Chicopee Mayor John Vieau said the financial loss is expected to be less than 1 percent of the $15 million budgeted for health and dental insurance premiums and much of it will likely be returned to the city by the insurance carriers.
At a City Hall news conference, he told reporters the erroneous payments were not a result of corruption or illegal activity.

Jul. 21—MASSENA — Town of Massena retirees say they would like to see the process move faster in switching to a new health insurance plan.
Several retirees were on hand Wednesday to ask the Massena Town Board to speed up the process and approve the transition to the new plan.
Deputy Town Supervisor Patrick M. Facteau said they had followed up with Zachary Zuckerman, a group benefits consultant at USI Insurance Services in Syracuse, and he had made contact with most of the retirees to discuss the new plan.

Biden to crack down on ‘junk’ health insurance
President Joe Biden is also slated to give a speech Friday touting his health care agenda, during which a White House official said he plans to “announce major actions to lower health care costs and crack down on junk fees.”
