SCAN Connections is a plan that is part of a Medicare contract and a contract with the California Medi-Cal (Medicaid) program.
How do you get a SCAN Healthy Foods Card?
Eligible citizens have the option to order their SCAN Healthy Foods Card by calling 1-877-494-2892 from Monday to Friday between 05:00 and 20:00. Once their application is received, the card could take a couple of weeks to arrive.
How does the SCAN Healthy Foods Card work and which stores accept it?
Should you successfully apply for the plan, you will receive a SCAN Healthy Foods Card that provides you with a 50 dollar quarterly payment, one which you can use to buy healthy food at participating stores such as Walmart, Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, Food4Less, Safeway, Dollar General, CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.
It has to be noted that with the list of foods you are allowed to buy using your SCAN Healthy Foods Card includes fruits, vegetables, prepared food, meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese, milk, other dairy products, beans, bread , cereals, pasta, crackers, nuts, trail mix and nutritional bars.
Meanwhile, you are not allowed to purchase vitamins, dietary supplements, jams, jellies, syrups, soda, juice beverages, punch, hot cocoa, toaster pastries, bakery goods, cookies, cake mix, frosting and sugar.
“Your card is active and ready to use at any participating store,” explains the SCAN Health Plan official website.
“Simply swipe it when you check out to pay for your items. Your SCAN Healthy Foods Card will cover the cost up to the amount left on your card.
“Any cost that’s over the amount on your card must be paid by you. Use the total 50 dollars during the current quarter; any amount left at the end of the quarter will not roll over.”
The card is reloaded with 50 dollars at the start of each quarter and only current SCAN members can use it.
