Reminding employees about their mental health benefits reduces stigma and improves engagement

Promoting mental health awareness and benefit use within the workplace has come a long way over the past two decades, but for many, a stigma still remains that prevents them from seeking care. As the effects of unacknowledged and untreated conditions on businesses become more apparent, employers have a chance to become a mouthpiece for change. Approximately 75% of employees have dealt with an issue that affected their mental health, according to the American Heart Association. Whether stemming from personal or professional factors, the toll of these struggles is widespread within the workplace, with being untreated mental health conditions costing…

Public health insurance for parents improves children’s reading skills, study finds

Analytic Sample Construction. Notes: Sample sizes are approximate (varies across model specifications); and rounded to the nearest 10 based on dataset guidelines. * The ECLS-K data manual recommends the use of sampling weights as appropriate to balance the trade-off between non-response bias and sample size considerations; therefore we chose the longitudinal weight – w9c29p_9a0 for our analyzes that provide appropriate adjustments for complex survey design and non-response bias in the survey waves we use in our sample. credits: Southern Economic Journal (2022). 30,000 people will lose health insurance next month as Colorado shuts down Friday Health Plans. Here’s what’s next.

Friday Health Plans started in Colorado in 2015 with hopes of revolutionizing the health insurance market. Nearly a decade later, the company has imploded, leaving tens of thousands of people scrambling to find new health insurance in Colorado and beyond. State regulators in Colorado are moving to “liquidate” the company, meaning its assets will be divided up and the business closed. As a result, all of Friday Health’s plans in Colorado will end on Aug. 31 — affecting roughly 30,000 customers here. The company was already set to close, seeming to collapse after an over-aggressive expansion. But state regulators decided…

Joe Lieberman Weighs the Trump Risk

Joe Lieberman wants to make one thing clear. “The last thing I’d ever want to be part of,” the former Connecticut senator and onetime vice-presidential nominee told me by phone last week, “is bringing Donald Trump back to the Oval Office.” Democrats have their doubts. Suddenly liberated, Lieberman endorsed the Republican John McCain over Barack Obama in 2008 and proceeded to tank the Democrats’ dreams of enacting a public…

Johnny Knoxville says the Jackass cast was once ‘uninsurable’

Johnny Knoxville knows that he’s lucky to be alive — and so does his insurance company. Asked if he is an insurance agent’s worst nightmare during a Vanity Fair lie detector interview, the fifty-two year old stunt performer and Jackass star attempted a lie: “No,” he said, before looking towards the lie detector operator. “Does that sound true?” After receiving a firm headshake, Knoxville fessed up. “Okay,” he admits. “You got me, I am.” Knoxville has sprained, torn and broken many body parts over the course of his career. Alongside the rest of the Jackass cast members, he spent years…
